Hypermobility

Hypermobility means that one or more of your joints can move beyond what is considered the typical range. However, having flexible or “bendy” joints does not always cause problems and, for many people, is simply a normal variation.

It may be helpful to seek advice if hypermobility is causing regular aches and pains, difficulties with balance or coordination, frequent injuries, or problems taking part in everyday activities. Hypermobility is particularly common in children, especially at a younger age. Although it can sometimes cause challenges, there are many ways to help manage the symptoms and improve confidence in movement.

Treatment usually begins with a thorough assessment, followed by education and practical advice. A personalised exercise programme is often an important part of treatment, helping to improve strength, stability, coordination and overall function.
